Get to Know Me
Not long ago, I came up with one of my principal life-quotes. To this day, it continually makes me stop and assess how I am living my life.
"Life is not just about surviving; it's about flourishing!"
I personally know that there are times in life where all we can do is just survive. After all, survival is instinctive; a part of our make up. Take for example, the fight-or-flight response to danger, or the tendency for babies to cry when hungry; these are all survival instincts so we can continue to exist. But, existing is not living! And yet, sometimes we can get stuck in 'survival mode.' This can happen to us as individuals, in our relationships, or in a specific area of our life.
Are you at a place in your life or relationship where you want to know and feel that there is meaning
and purpose to how you are living - that you matter?
Have you tried to regain that "spark" but the lack of success has led you to despair or
to develop some ‘avoidance’ behaviors instead?
Is there a personal matter that is affecting your relationship?
Do you find yourself needing some support or guidance to figure out how to manage your motivation, feelings or choices in life?
Feeling stuck in a rut about a personal issue or dealing with the hurt and pain from a relationship can be draining and sometimes sabotage our energy or desire. Not knowing how to address or change a situation, or how to move from reacting to responding to our partner, can leave us feeling frustrated, overwhelmed and without hope.
Believe it or not, it takes more than just knowing how to have fun and play to be happy and engaged in your life. Having healthy relationships, physical, mental and emotional health are all essential to living a life engaged.
I enjoy working together with my clients to identify their goals and build on the strengths and resources they already possess. I provide support, practical feedback, and education to aid in discovering ways they can improve themselves and their relationships. I encourage my clients to understand their needs and learn to communicate and meet them, so they can live a life that is congruent with their values, beliefs and wants. While I tend to work mostly with couples, marriages and family relationships, I also work with individuals addressing issues such as:
Anxiety - Depression
Trauma - Emotional Wellness
Grief & Loss - Life transitions
Personal growth - Divorce aftercare
Background
As a bilingual-fluent in English and Spanish, I have gained extensive experience working with multicultural populations in various settings. With over 15 years in corporate and non-profit organizations, I have worked in various service, training, and managerial roles. Although rewarding in its own way, helping employees develop and thrive in their professional careers gave me insight into how much more I wanted to do. I transitioned to the mental health field where I found the work of helping individuals, couples and marriages flourish, truly fulfilling! My experience includes in-home family therapy, outpatient individual and couples therapy, group therapy, DBT skills groups, and parenting classes. Additionally, I do public speaking at conferences, men's and women's groups and couple's retreats. These venues have afforded me the opportunity to reach larger audiences within the community about topics such as enhancing communication skills; strengthening conflict resolution skills, management of life transitions and my favorite - the importance of repair in relationships we want to maintain. The strength and growth that comes about in the process of living our lives congruently is where we flourish!
Call today to schedule an appointment. I look forward to meeting with you!
